About this deal

Despite a few minor issues The Thing: The Board Game is an outstanding hidden role game. Totally immersive and thematic and one of the best interpretations of a movie into a board game I have ever played. I found the game had a few issues regarding the alien player. While its great to become the alien and surprise everyone, players who join forces with them at a later time don’t really have much to do other than help decide where the aliens strength tokens will be placed. These miniatures represent the 8 main characters seen in the movie, such as MacReady or Doctor Blair. The tension as you all decide who to perform a blood test on and then waiting for them to reveal their role card is unmatched in any game I have played. Later in the game, more will be dealt out amongst other human cards. In a seven or eight player game, there is the chance for two more Imitations to be dealt. In a four to six player, there can only ever be one more. This is the main rule difference between player counts, but the overall feeling with more players is very different. For a game about table talk, the more in this case is very much the merrier.

The game can be hard to teach as players who need to keep information secret can’t ask for help due to risk of them being exposed Hidden amongst the crew is a ravenous alien organism desperate to live. The alien organism can change its appearance to look like one of the game’s characters and can pretend to be performing actions to help the crew. It’s up to all the other players to root out which of them is acting falsely and destroy the alien player. At the end of each round if players have acquired the right components blood tests can be used to determine someone’s allegiance and could be used to force a player to reveal as an alien. However, the revealed alien may do more damage once they’re in the open. The humans can run out of food in the base and begin starving. When the base runs out of food, every player’s hand size is reduced by one, but players didn’t seem too hampered by this limitation. The power can fail and create darkness. In the dark, players must randomly turn in their action cards the leader rather than choosing. This also didn’t feel debilitating. Eventually in several games we ended up being both starving and in darkness, and yet the humans soldiered on without seeing too much change. I did stop making fun of Norris as his special power is to have a flashlight. I’m sorry Norris, your character power is much better than I originally thought. The Thing - The Boardgame is a "hidden role" game, in which one player is initially the Thing and the other players are humans. The purpose of the Thing is to infect others, to prevent the survivors from escaping from the base (which can happen in three different ways), or to try to escape with them by behaving as a human.

The Thing – The Boardgame is a game created and produced by Pendragon Game Studios. The English Edition is distributed by Ares Games. This chip could either be a useful item such as some Rope or The Thing itself which would start a battle. If they fail in any way, either through missing the requirements of the room or via a sabotage card, then the room could be lost to fire. Loose too many rooms and the game is lost. Get Rollin’I have had countless games where seemingly innocent actions by players can raise eyebrows and motivations were often questioned. If players believe a member of the group is acting strangely, they can make accusations in the leisure room to increase their level of suspicion. If a player has enough suspicion placed upon them, they will be forced to reveal which action card they actually intend to play that round. Eventually, players will be able to perform a blood, fire or wire test to determine whether a certain player is the alien or not. This a wonderful system and such a simple way to allow non human players to wreak havoc across the base without anyone ever knowing what role card they have. When I mentioned table talk earlier bringing out some serious debates, it doesn’t getting scarier and funnier than seeing a couple of sabotage cards enter the pile, prompting the leader to question everyone’s loyalty and true intentions. First announced in 2018, The Thing: The Board Game is an upcoming game that sees four to eight players attempting to survive on a desolate outpost in the middle of a frozen tundra. However, the harsh weather conditions and freezing cold are not the only things to be worried about. Although the crew in the film consisted of 12, we only have 8 in the core game. The majority of the iconic ones are here but I can’t figure out why they left out Childs, one of the only survivors at the movies’ climax.

It is a "hidden role" game, in which one player is initially the Thing and the others players are humans. The purpose of the Thing is to infect others, to prevent the survivors from escaping from the base (which can happen three different ways), or to try to escape with them by behaving as a human. Usually, another player has been quietly setting up arguments and accusations. If they managed to creep their way onto the Helicopter to win the game for the Imitations, when everyone was convinced of their innocence... well, this is what hidden character games are all about and what games like this are made for. The alien can win by either infecting everyone, or boarding the chosen escape method, they’ve managed to get out into the world and spread! Some parts of the game may feel a little tedious if players are repeating actions. Gameplay does ramp up once the suspicions rise but I get the impression some may find this build up and slow tension not to their liking. Now, let me tell you why you should let me use the armory - if I find a flamethrower I promise to use it responsibly...
