About this deal
Suspicion, obsession, vengeance, spite, social media and mental health problems combine in this very modern story to create a compelling tale of suburban adultery gone horribly wrong. Soon after, Tabby Dewhurst arrives on the Ile de Ré in France, estranged from her family and unable to afford even a room for the night. Thank you – yes this one doesn’t match its cover – my daughter is delighted as she enjoyed The Sudden Departure of the Frasers too and now there is another one ready and waiting for her to read. Tabby begins to discover the truth behind the real identity of Emmie Mason and begins her own investigation.
A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words I am currently reading Redemption Road by Lisa Ballantyne See yesterday’s post for the synopsis and a taster from this book I have recently finished The Disappearance of Emily Marr by Louise Candlish, one of my 20 Books of 2015! Throughout my career I have always tried to put the craft first and, as we know, the quality of the craft quite simply comes down to the people working on the production.I remember constantly having to teach myself things on the go, whereas now I feel we spend more time focusing on nurturing our young talent. I listened to the audio version of this book and I felt in very good company as I entered the lives of Emily Marr and celebrated eye surgeon Arthur Woodhall as they embark upon an affair which does not end well.
During her time with MJZ, Emily was also responsible for creating relationships with the likes of Sky, ITV, BBC and Netflix. Her experiences are also the gateway into a wider theme that is explored and touches upon all of the main characters: loneliness and isolation.
My real complaint is that by doing so, she completely lost focus on building a decent plot, killed the mystery with the "big reveal" that wasn't a reveal at all, and stole five hours of my life. And once it has started there doesn’t seem much that the object of our disgust can do except lay low and wait for the public to move onto a new target. Easier in the sense that we had much more access to people because it was an incredibly social industry. With shattering speed, she becomes the object of a media witchhunt, her only choice to change her identity and vanish. The storyline is immensely gripping so that from the very start I found it difficult to put the book down (when I needed to go to work for instance, or you know.
